Guitar Reviews
Guitar reviews come in all shapes and sizes, almost like the guitars themselves. Still, they can usually be broken down into two categories; reviews written by the manufacturer to get you to buy, and reviews written by musicians who use them and tell the unvarnished truth. Which of the two are you going believe?
While the manufacturer reviews do a good job of pointing up the features of a given guitar model, they are somewhat lacking in the area of performance. They just do not give you enough information about the range of sounds the guitar is capable of producing to know if it is the right model for your needs.
User reviews do a much better job of breaking down the features of the guitar and telling you how they all work together to produce music. You generally get a detailed analysis of the components of the guitar; neck, fret board, strings, body, materials used, tuners, and amps if an electric guitar.
Even better, user reviews are written by fellow musicians who actually use the guitars and can tell you how they perform for different types of music. After all, a model that works great for a heavy metal band might not be the model you need if you play country and western music.
All in all, user reviews are simply far superior to manufacturer reviews in terms of peer to peer coverage of the finer points of the guitar model. The information written by a fellow musician can not help but be more believable and more useful than information written down with the goal of attracting your eye and making a sale.
One other feature of user reviews that you should find quite useful is the price paid for the guitar. Once all the information is reviewed and the performance of the guitar is established, it is still very helpful to most serious musicians to have an idea of the price of the guitar model in order to determine if it is truly a good value for the money. Sometimes, the guitar may not necessarily perform up to the level one would expect for the price, making it a poor value.
Best of all, user reviews are completely unbiased. One musician may absolutely love his axe and write a glowing review while another is disappointed with its performance and writes a review that points up all the details about the guitar that do not measure up to the expected level of performance. This makes it easier to gather useful information about a specific model of guitar before making a purchase decision.
Guitar reviews come in two main varieties; manufacturer reviews that are written with an eye to selling you a specific model, and user reviews that are written by musicians for musicians to provide an unbiased opinion of a guitar model based on how it performs in actual usage conditions. Of the two, user reviews are generally more useful to a musician looking into whether or not to buy a specific model of guitar for use in his band.
