this is the best electric 12 string for twice the money that you will ever
see. stays in tune, unlike many other unnamed famous 12 strings. has an easy to deal with bridge, great tuners, juicy pick-ups, good workmanship detail and get this... it is easy to play. i can't say enough about what a great affordable instrument this is.

I have owned a Dean Boca for one year and I am quite pleased with this instrument. The sounds produced by this guitar are full of good character and the appearance of the transparent cherry burst is stunning. The guitar arrived in the box with an excellent set-up--it's easy on the fingers yet the strings do not rattle. If you are looking for a nice 12-string electric guitar, but cannot afford to purchase a Ric, I think that you would be very pleased with the results that you would obtain from this fine istrument.

Jangle sound for small bucks...

Had this delivered only yesterday but after several hours of playing I'm extremely satisfied. Been playing 60's rock for years and have always lusted after a chimy Byrds/Beatles/Pretenders type sound, but since I'm not a pro and don't play out, I wasn't keen on dropping 2K for a you-know-what (not to mention waiting possibly 6 to 18 months for delivery).

Workmanship seems quite good especially for this price point. The only defect I've noticed is a missing screw from one of the pickups - otherwise I haven't found a blemish - certainly nothing like wiring sticking out of the f-holes as some reviewers on other sites have complained of. Without any additional setup besides tuning up, the intonation is perfect well past fret 12. The neck is wide and fairly chunky - I've never played a Ric but understand that their 12 string necks are quite narrow....the Dean is wide enough that it might actually be a little large for players with smaller hands.

In terms of sound, this delivers exactly you'd expect - that "Mr. Tambourine Man" thing. To achieve that, you pretty much have to use only the bridge pickup with the tone control on full treble, but you don't expect an instrument like this to have a huge sonic range. If you want to get even closer to the sound of that "other" expensive guitar, try using this with a good compressor like a Janglebox - you won't be disappointed, especially at these prices.

Best bang-for-the-buck electric 12 string out there. Fit and finish are very good; weight is what you would expect from a guitar like this. Nice veneer top and good quality hardware for the price. I took a chance on this guitar, having not played this model before and I am very satisfied. The setup right out of the box was great without any buzzes or problems. The pickups are the quality you would expect for the price paid, but not bad sounding at all. A Best buy in my book!

I ordered the Dean Boca 12 String about two months ago, from Amazon. The packing was excellent; guitar arrived in perfect condition. I was wary about ordering a guitar "sight unseen", but all my fears were dispelled within five minutes! The fit and finish are perfect. The action and intonation was spot on. A reviewer on the "MF" website complained about the fact that the tuneomatic bridge on this guitar has only six adjustable saddles. In theory, you'd want twelve adjustable saddles, but on this guitar it does not seem to make a difference. I used my old strobe tuner and found that the difference at the 12th fret was only a fraction of cents. Not worth replacing the bridge.
At 57 years of age I have been playing for 44 years now. At one time or another I have owned Les Pauls (59, 60), SGs (62, 66), a Guild Bluesbird (60), Gretsch Super Axe (78), Ibanez Custom Agent (76), Yamaha SG1500 (76), Samicks (80's), and Epiphones (89-91). Although I don't own any of the older classics now (in 1969 we didn't realize the '59 Les Paul we bought for $275 would be worth a fortune down the road), I do recall the "playability" of most of the instruments I have owned. I rate several brands as being the best players: mid 60's SG Standard, 59 LP, original Bluesbird, original Gretsch, the Japanese Mfd mid 70's Ibanez and Yamaha SG (SBG), and late 90's through early 00's Epi LPs that were Mfd in Korea. Although the Japanese Mfd guitars are now becoming collectible, the Koreans have not caught on yet. Some of the Korean instruments are every bit as well made as the Japanese were in the mid to late 1970's. Two Korean plants produced superb Epi LPs, "Un Sung Musical Instrument Co", and "Saein Musical Instrument Co". Saein was presented the `The Best Quality Award of the Year' by Gibson Epiphone USA in 1998 and 1999.
Back to the Boca. It is Mfd in Korea as well. I have no idea of the plant that produced it, but they know what they're doing. I'm blown away by this "bolt-neck" 12 string that plays like butter! I have to rate the Boca right up there with the best playing instruments. Some reviewers on the "MF" website have complained about the humbuckers. I've found them to be perfect. The bridge pickup gives a great "jangley" ric 12 string sound. The neck pickup is very "full bodied". I do roll back the volume to about an "8" because the pickups are fairly high output. They will easily overload the tube amps I prefer (12AX7/2-6L6/5U4). If I'm going for the ric sound, the Boca sounds best through a solid-state amp, like an Ultracoustic - using the bridge pickup. For most of my playing, British Blues and the Black American artists the Brits copied, I find that the neck pickup into my tube amp gives this juicy, rich with harmonics, killer sound. I had never thought of lead runs on a 12 string, but it sounds great.
For those of us that cannot afford the Rics, Fenders, and Gibsons, there are some great playing alternatives to be found. In my (humble) opinion, the Dean Boca 12 String is one of them.
