A New Beginning (Studio Tour)

Thanks for quick reply. I’ve got good comp, 9850 quad core, 6gb hs ram, 2-500gb HD, 2x768mb 9600 GSO’s. AND 8channel audio onboard, that stinks!
Get too much latency, even with ASIO. I figured, rather than spend $200-$400 on sound card, spend little more and get something tangible. Then I could transfer to computer for editing. I’m old school, reel – reel, “daisy-chained” 4-track cassettes, . Little intimidated by new recording technology, even though I’m a computer builder, tech, lol !

Anyway thanks for help and I will let you know which one I get best deal on. Keep up good sound, looking forward to hearing more.

Sorry I have just been looking at prices on the units and I guess they are selling for around $600 for the HD16 and $400 for the R16. Hm I thought I paid less then that for the R16 but maybe not. (These are Canadian Prices I’m using)

I have not been able to use the Zoom HD16 so I can’t really compare them. I will personally only be using the R16. But it will be up to you what you need and how much you want to spend (Quality from both are probably close to equal just the HD16 allows you to record right on it) I hope this helps a little. Cool thank you very much for letting me know that they will be releasing drivers for 64-bit systems. I was going a little crazy lol. As for the R16 or the HD16 it will basically come down to what you need and how much you want to spend. If you have a powerful computer good software and just need a wicked controller then the R16 is the way to go running at under $200 Or if you are lacking in the computer and software the HD16 is almost a complete workstaion able to record and burn quality right

I’m upgrading to Windows7 64-bit, but waiting because of driver issues. Checked Zoom’s tech in JP. They are going to release 64 bit drivers, some time late April,2010. Hope this helps. Also, I’m going to purchase a Zoom shortly. Can’t decide between HD16 or R16. Any suggestions? Ease of use, problems with, ect…? Thanks in advance for any help.

more than likely, it’s because your computers operating system is running on 64 bits and the software disk that comes with the r 16 to turn it into an audio interface is only compatible with a 32 bit operating system. You’ll either have to downgrade to a 32 bit O.S., or wait until they come up with an update that will make it compatible. You’d think that all the new software coming out would be compatible with 64 bit, it just makes me want to buy a MAC. PC’s are too much hassle.

Unfortunately I am having the same problems. I thought it might just be the cubase, but I just bought Sonar 8 Producer edition, and now the actual Driver disc that R16 controller came with won’t work on my computer. So I have been recording all my tracks on the R16, then hook up to my computer, hit USB on the board, select card reader, then when my computer sees it I copy all the tracks into a folder and import them to Sonar, If I figure anything out I will let you know.

With the R16 you have 8 inputs which double as both 3/4 inch jacks, or mic jacks. So you can have up to eight inputs recording at one given time. i’m having trouble using my r16 as a controller/audio interface on cubase. I hook it up using the usb and on cubase it shows that the zoom r16 is connected but it doesn’t record anything.. i have no trouble recording straight onto the r16 itself however, it’d be nice to be able to simply use it as a controller and edit on cubase. any suggestions?

The battery sound of this song is coming undoubtedly from Motif. I guess it is Rock kit.

By the way, can the Zoom R16 record two synths at the same time in stereo (4 line inputs recording at the same time)?

Unfortunately right now my a5′s are just hooked up to the R16 so I use them primarily just for recording and playback, then I send the songs onto my laptop where I mix them on Sonar 8 and use my headphones. But they are excellent sounding in my opinion. very crisp and clean, I would recommend them. You will want a good sub to go with them though.

tracks which use the same connection ports you have already used but you can hook up 8 totally different mics or whatever then switch between the first eight tracks and the last eight with the push of a button. The Zoom itself only has eight input jacks that fit both mic cables or the standerd three quarter inch jack. So if you wanted to go into the zoom then into your computer based software it would still only be able to do eight tracks at one time. But you can always go back and add more tracks. The sixteen tracks that the recorder can do is if you are recording right on the zoom, and even then you are doing eight tracks at one time, then you press a button and it switches to another set of eight

Let say I use the zoom as a controller of my Cubase or any compatible recording software, can it record more than 16 tracks simultaneously? The R16 also can act as a controller and allow you to as your recording be hooked up to your computer enabeling you to record directly to your computer. The R16 can either record 16 seperate tracks per song right on it, you have your first eight tracks then you hit a button on it and it gives you an additional 8 tracks. Your mics could stay in the same spots you just then have to use that same button to switch between your first eight and your last eight. It hooks up to my computer and I copy and paste all the individual tracks to my computer in any file folder you want. Then I open my software and import the tracks to there, the tracks can be
