I don’t know how to clean the strings, but try cleaning your guitar with a dry cloth.
A damp cloth, and dry it right off.
You will have to change the strings if they are dirty.
Strings just use a soft cloth. If you play quite a bit you need to change strings on an acoustic at least every few months. When I’m doing a great deal of work on an acoustic a set of strings lasts me maybe a month.
The way I like to do it is to remove the E strings, clean the fretboard with a cloth, put the new E’s on and work inward from there. By cleaning the fretboard every time I change strings it stays pretty clean.
If your strings are noticably dirty it’s time to change them. Your fingers secrete oils that corrode the strings. As they corrode they lose a great deal of sound. Start sounding flat.
Wiping the strings down by running a cloth under them and over them every time you play is a good way of keeping the fretboard clean and extending string life.
The fingerprints should wipe off with any soft cloth.
A microfiber cloth. Make sure that everything is unplugged 0 especially is you use the cloth BARELY damp. I clean over $80,000 worth of instruments in this house with just that – nothing more.
Well If you do not have normal instrument cleaner use windex on the body. The strings they will get dirty and it is it’s own way of saying time to change them. Other companies like Ernie Ball provide string cleaner to keep them looking new or fresh but once they do on the oxidizing side of life they cannot be saved.
If you do not have windex at home any glass cleaner will work on the guitar, use can also use pleage too or Orange Glow.
Try to stay away from dish soap, hand soup, or any soup for that matter it will make it feel sticky and ruff. Also you can use soft paper towls, or polish cloths or warn out old super soft wash cloths. What I found out works really great is them Shamwows on my guitar bodys.
Most important…
DONT USE ANY WATER ON THE INSTRUMENT IT WILL DESTROY IT IN TIME AND CHANGE THE SOUND.
