Welcome to Another Day by Mark Maysey (Mountain Dulcimer Song)
I purchased this very nice mountain dulcimer from a guy at a flea market a few months ago. He purchased it as a kit from a supplier in Colorado. He claimed he had hopes of putting it together someday and then to learn how to play it, but that never transpired and it spent the next 6 years in his closet. One year his brother-in-law who was an aspiring wood-smith offered to put it together for him and gave it to him for Christmas one year. His brother-in-law did a superb job of putting it together and I had the good fortune to add this to my instrument collection for $25.00. The guy I bought this from also had a fairly new Yamaha acoustic guitar made in Indonesia for $250.00, I felt he had the prices backwards, as this dulcimer is built much better and with choice woods, and the best part about it, it was no doubt built by someone with a labor of love. Im happy to have ended up with it and I now have no intentions of selling it, Ill probably pass it on to my grandchildren if they have any desire to take possession of it. I decided to write a song with it this evening and felt it was good enough to share. Thanks to all my new friends and a big hug to all my old ones that continue to share their kind and thoughtful words. Wishing all a very peaceful week ahead. lol… I think the sound hole will be a simple circle. My scroll saw skills aren’t the best, so I believe I will keep it as simple as I can. I’ll keep you posted on it though. Good luck in the land down under!
That was a fast visit Jay, glad to see you made it over. I paid $25.00 for this beautiful instrument, did you read the info to the right. Wow, you’re going to build one of these from scratch? I’m really wanting an F-hole mandolin, maybe you can make one of those? I might be heading off to Australia to do some movie work and might be able to afford a nice old Gibson when I get back. Good to hear from you friend! Mark
You betcha!! this is great! After I posted that, I thought, geez, I should look to see if he already did!! Thanks for clueing me in. Hey this is awesome. I want a dulcimer so bad I could just spit. My wife says I have too many instruments already. (she don’t understand) Well I’m building my own. Since I work in several veneer mills I abscounded with several pieces of curly maple and also some nice walnut. Hopefully, soon you will see one of my creations! Best regards!
I really appreciated this – thanks for posting!
I’d like to know where you learnt to play the dulcimer..
